Question:  Who is my "Most Distant Ancestor?"

Answer: Our "Most Distant Ancestor" is defined as our earliest proven ancestor.

Knox-DNA Groups or "Lines" represent possible "genetic cousins."  If "paper genealogies" haven't already connected these possible cousins, sharing profiles may provide not only new "clues," but also expand traditional researcher resources, enabling future discovery of a connection!

FTDNA Line No. 1 --  Haplogroup: R1b1b2

Several immigrant members of Line No. 1 settled in Mecklenburg Co NC (Steele Creek and North Mecklenburg areas) during the mid-1700's.  Their descendants stayed mostly in the southern states of the USA. Other immigrants in this line may have moved west from Pennsylvania or Maryland. One test participant still lives in the Finn Valley of Donegal, Ireland. And at least one researcher believes Gen. Henry Knox of Maine, the 1st U.S. Secretary of War, was from the same extended Knox family. Two researchers in this line believe that Capt James Knox, grandfather of President James Knox Polk, is from this same extended Knox family. [Also see FTDNA Line No. 8 below.]

FTDNA Line No. 2 --  Haplogroup: T

This "Mediterranean" haplogroup is rare in the British Isles. It may have been brought there by Roman soldiers before 300 AD, or by traveling merchants during the Middle Ages. It's also the "deep ancestry" of U. S. President Thomas Jefferson, with whom the men in this group may share a common "male line" ancestor who lived well before the common use of surnames in England and Scotland, that is, well before 1400 AD.
